Ash Nathan is the current co-director of CoffeeHead. With over 30 years experience as a chef, Ash came to Australia after working as an apprentice at the renowned Ritz and getting qualified at London’s City and Guilds Institute. His first Melbourne job was working under Master Chef’s Gary Mehigan at Novotel on Collins. His next role as Head Chef at Crown’s Automatic Cafe, introduced him to his boss and eventual collaborator at CoffeeHead, Paul Mathis. In a sense Ash has ironically gone back to his roots with CoffeeHead. His maternal grandfather owned many coffee estates in the Gampola area in Sri Lanka from the late 1800s. The smell and feel of roasting coffee beans, drinking it and even playing amongst the coffee bushes form a huge part of his childhood memories. Ash’s other loves include his family, travel, sport of any kind, especially cricket and the Carlton Football Club.
